Measure the size of your maple dining table with a tape measure. If you do not have a rigid tape measure, you need someone else to keep the other end of the tape measure in the corner for a correct measurement. Write down these measurements on a piece of paper. For example, your dining room can be 13 meters long and 11 meters wide. Measure the depth of any furniture in your dining room that you intend to stay in place. Write down these as well. For example, you can have a sideboard that stretches along most of the short wall in the dining room and is 1-foot deep.
Subtract the depth of maple dining table interior from the appropriate space dimension to find the useful floor area in your dining room. In this example it would be 13 meters by 10 meters. Subtract 6 meters from each dimension to allow 3 meters between each side of the table and the wall behind. This space is important for people to walk around the table and get in and out of the chairs. In our example, the table space is now reduced to 7 feet with 4 feet. Subtract further foot from the dimension of a table if the space behind it is used regularly as a walkway.
