General

Is Relay For Life an actual "Relay?"
This is our most common question that we receive. Relay For Life is not an actual Relay or a Race. However, there is a track at the event and people walk the track all night to explore the different campsites.

Tell me about the night of Relay. What is it like?
The night of Relay is one of the greatest events at UGA. It's an amazing experience that you will never forget. Each year about 4,000 people come out to show their support. It is a 12 hour event from 7pm to 7am. There are hundreds of camp sites each with their own unique fund raiser, dozens of local businesses selling their food or other products, all night music, and much more! Entertainment schedule will be made public a few weeks before Relay.

What is the American Cancer Society?
The American Cancer Society combines an unyielding passion with nearly a century of experience to save lives and end suffering from cancer. As a global grassroots force of more than three million volunteers, we fight for every birthday threatened by every cancer in every community. We save lives by helping people stay well by preventing cancer or detecting it early; helping people get well by being there for them during and after a cancer diagnosis; by finding cures through investment in groundbreaking discovery; and by fighting back by rallying lawmakers to pass laws to defeat cancer and by rallying communities worldwide to join the fight. As the nation’s largest non-governmental investor in cancer research, contributing more than $3.4 billion, we turn what we know about cancer into what we do. As a result, more than 11 million people in America who have had cancer and countless more who have avoided it will be celebrating birthdays this year. To learn more about us or to get help, call us any time, day or night, at 1-800-227-2345 or visit cancer.org.

When is the event?
The 2011 UGA Relay for Life will be on April 15-16, 2011.

Where is the event?
This years Relay will be at the Intramural Complex off College Station. This location provides more space, lighting, and parking than our previous location.

I want to attend Relay but I'm not on a team. What do I do?
Great! We welcome everyone to the event. Admission can be purchased at the gate.
Admission details will be announced closer to the event.

What is a luminary and how do I buy one?
A luminary is a very special part of Relay For Life. It is a bag lit with a candle that lines the border of the track. Luminaries can be in honor or in memory of someone. Luminaries can be bought at https://www.ugarelay.org/store.

Do I have to stay all night?
No, you do not have to stay all night. However, many exciting events happen all throughout the night leading up to our announcement of the grand total around 7am. We highly encourage you to make plans to stay all night.

What happens if it rains?
If the weather is unfavorable, we will make every effort to still hold our event as scheduled. However, if weather is severe we will make an official announcement on our home page at UGArelay.org if we are forced to change locations.
